Newspaper Report (Eskimo Joe)

September 15th, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

I chose to read a newspaper report on Eskimo’s Joe succsess. I decided to read this because I think they are a good band and I love their song “Black Fingernails, Red Wine”.

It was about how they have been nominated in nine categories for the Australian Recording Industry Association awards.

I agree that they are a good band and they deserve to win lots of awards.

I disagree with the John Butler Trio being in it because although they have some great music they have not had any top 20’s songs for ages.

I think this is a good report because it is informative and interesting.

Labyrinth

September 15th, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

I choose to read this book by Kate Mosse because it looked and sounded very interesting.

It was set in both the middle ages and the present in France. It is very complecated. A woman working at an dig site discovers 2 skeletons and lots of strange things start happening. She discoveres that she is linked to 1 of the skeletons and decides to see if she could find out how the woman had died.

The best bit was was when she worked out how she was related to the woman and how she died because it all made sense and worked out.

The worst bit was when it kept switching from the middle ages to now and it was a bit confusing and you had to remember what had been happening a couple of chapters ago.

I think this is a pretty good book but a bit hard to understand sometimes and hard to keep up with all the characters.

Spicks and Specks

September 8th, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

One of my favourite T.V. shows is “Spicks and Specks”. It is on ABC at 8.30pm on Wednesday.

It is a music quiz show with opposing teams. Each team has a captain that is on “Spicks and Specks” everyweek. The captain for one team is Adam Brough who is an actor and a comedian. The captain for the opposing team is Myf Warhurst who workes for Triple J. They get four guests (two on each team) to come and play. They have different guests each week. Some that have been are: Pete Murray, James Morrison, Christina Anu and Murray from the Wiggles. The host is an Australian comedian Adam Hills.

The best bit is when they have the really interesting rounds like Substetution were the guest has to sing a song with the words from a irrelevant book. It is really funny and entertaining.

The worst bit is when they have boring rounds like were they ask questions and they just have to answer. It gets a bit annoying because heaps of the songs are old ones and they don’t have many recent ones.

I really love this show. It is great fun to watch and very entertaing.

White Ute Dreaming (Book)

August 25th, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

Recently I chose to read a boook called White Ute Dreaming. It is written by Scott Gardner. I found it very interesting to read and hard to put down.

It is about a 16 year old boy’s everyday life. It is very australian with a realistic storyline. He is a typical Aussie boy who has a girlfriend a couple of good mates and a dog. His girlfriend and best friend move and he has to struggle with depression. It is really honest and lifelike.

My favourite bit is all the funny stories of his crazy dog. Like how it swings from the clothesline and heaps of other waky things.

The worst bit was when while he was on holiday at his girlfriends their crazy neighbour shot and killed his dog. It was really, really sad.

I enjoyed it alot and I think most people would enjoy it.

Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest

August 25th, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

I loved the first Pirates Of The Carribean movie so when the second one came out I couldn’t wait to go and see it.

It was a really great movie but maybe not as good as the first one. There is going to be another movie because they kind of ended with the start of the next movie.

It was about the governors daughter Elizibeth (Keria Knightly), the locall blacksmith Will Turner (Oralando Bloom), a pirate called Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Davy Jones: this giant squid guy and all of his deadly crew.

It has quite a complex plot but it was pretty much about an old promise that Jack made with Davy Jones that after he had been captain of the Black Pearl for a certain amount of time he would go and work for Davy Jones for the rest of his life. The only way to save himself is to find Davy Jones heart which is in a locked chest and Davy has the key. Many other people are also looking for the key and the chest so it makes it very interesting.

I think this a very good movie even though it is a sequel. There are great special effect and the plot is very complecated and engaging.

Peters Icecream Add

July 24th, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

The first thing I noticed about this add was that there were lots of strawberries (I love strawberries) and the add was bright and colourfull.

This add would appear to all people who like straberries and icecream so they could be any age. They would have to have a sweet tooth. It could also apeal to people who love Peters icecream.

The purpose of the add was to promote and sell Strawberries And Cream Peters Icecream.

The add persuaded the viewer by having lots of bright colours and the icecream and strawberries looked really nice and tasty.

The add worked on me because I love strawberries, icecream and the Peters brand.

Podkids Australia

July 3rd, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

Podkids Australia are a group of year 4/5 children who go to Orange Grove Primary School.

They did podcasts about all kinds of things but mainly about stuff that was happening at their school at the time of the podcast. Some of these were the new admin office and Harry Potter (they were reading the book).

They didn’t seem very organized. Kids forgot what they were supposed to say and said the wrong thing or just didn’t say anything at all. It wasn’t to bad especially seeing they are about 9 and 10!

Some of them spoke really well but others didn’t speak so well. They were all probably very nervous so it is not unusual for them not to speak really well.

I thought the podcasts were ok but not really my kind of thing. They all put in alot of work and it payed off.

Australia Vs Italy World Cup Football

June 30th, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

I’m never really watched much soccer being more of an AFL fan but with us in the World Cup I wanted to watch. I didn’t watch the Australia Vs Croatia because of the time so I was determined to watch Australia Vs Italy.

It was a great game. Because of us viewing it form home we got to see all the replays and here the comentators talking about the players, game and umpiring decisions. All the players played really well and both teams were pretty evenly matched. There were some pretty controversial umpiring decisions including one were the umpire gave a Italian player a straight red card.

The worst bit was when the umpire gave a penalty to Italy that was very controversial (to say the least) and in the last 30 seconds of the game. Italy scored and the final whistle went. They won the game 1-0 in the last seconds. Apart from this the rest of the game was very interesting and good to watch.

Review of Reading and Viewing

June 23rd, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · No Comments

This semester I have been reading lots of large books. I am trying to finish a series that I started half way through first term. The books are really thick but interesting. I have been to see a few movies including Eight Below (that was really sad) and Ice Age 2. I have also watched alot of T.V. One of my favourite shows is Spicks and Specks.

Some highs were when I found a series of books that I liked because I was having trouble finding a good book, and going to the movies because they were really good fun. A major low was when Little Britain finished because that is one of my favourite shows.

I haven’t learnt much but I have enjoyed it.

I think my reading and viewing entries have probably stayed about the same during the semester, so that’s good.

I think that blogging has probably helped my writing because it can be seen by lot’s of people I have to be careful not to make any mistakes. I usually enjoy blogging. But I find it hard having to check the spelling and grammer is right.

In semester 2 I would like to finish the series I’m working at the moment and find another good one. I would also like to improve my blogs.

Titanic (Movie)

June 23rd, 2006 by 06astridv in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

A couple of weeks ago Titanic was on the T.V. on a friday night. I hadn’t seen it before and wanted to so I decided to stay up and watch it.

If you havn’t seen then you should go and see it because it’s really good. It’s about the maiden voyage of the Titanic. A rich upper class girl falls in love with a poor lower class guy who got tickets on the voyage playing a game of Poker.

My favourite bit was when Jack & Remisio (his friend) one the ticket to go on Titanic. The bit I didn’t like was when Jack died, it was so sad!!

It was a good movie but very, very, sad. It made me cry. I relised how tragic the sinking of Titanic really was.
